Qualifications to run for Mayor.
Section 2. - Qualifications and Salary
The Mayor must be a legal resident of Emmitsburg, Maryland, for at least one month (30 days) immediately preceding their election and shall be a qualified voter. The Mayor shall receive such salary as specified by ordinance, but it may not be raised or diminished during their term of office. The Mayor shall reside in the Town during their term of office. Upon removal of their residence from the Town during their term, the Mayor shall immediately vacate their office. If this should happen, the President of the Board of Commissioners shall be acting Mayor, as set forth in Article II, Section 15. (Res. No. 2, 12-30-80.)

Section 2. - Qualifications
Commissioners shall have resided in Emmitsburg, for at least one month (30 days) immediately preceding their election and shall be qualified voters. Each Commissioner shall reside in the Town during their term of office, and their removal of their residence from the Town during their term shall immediately vacate their office. The Board shall be the judges of the election and the qualification of its members.
Section 3. - Salaries
The Commissioners shall receive such compensation as shall be fixed by ordinance, but no Commissioner shall have their compensation or salary increased or diminished during their term.

VOTERS:
Check your voter status online via the Voter Lookup Tool. Click on "My Voting Districts" and your Municipal District should read "EMM". You can also call the Frederick County Board of Elections at 301-600-8683 to verify your voting information.
Register to vote online on the MD Board of Elections Website or via voter registration form (English or Espanol). Registration forms can be obtained from the Town Office as well.
Absentee Ballot Requests must be turned in to the Town Clerk by close of business on Tuesday September 8, 2023.
You must be registered to vote to obtain an absentee ballot. Absentee ballot voting is available for any qualified voter who is unable to cast a ballot during regularly scheduled election day hours due to (1) vacation and/or business travel outside of Town; (2) a physical condition, illness, injury, disability, or other medical condition or health related circumstance that creates a risk of substantial harm; (3) military service; (4) attendance of school outside of Frederick County; or (5) employment and/or commute during polling hours.

Filing for Candidacy
Candidates must file a written application for candidacy with the Town Clerk by 4:00 p.m. on Friday August 25, 2023. Financial Disclosures for each candidate are also due Friday August 25, 2023 by 4:00 p.m.
All candidates will be posted on the Town bulletin board in alphabetical order.
Write-In candidate deadline is Tuesday September 19, 2023 at noon.
